These people run one website, but are using two
Internet domains. One is called "micro-space.com", and the other is called
"entrespace.com". The latter seems to be for a non-profit institution,
of an educational nature. Both sites are sparsely populated, and the
"News" section is "under construction". That doesn't look
good, does it? The leader of this team is Richard Speck, and the team is based
in Denver, Colorado, in the USA. |
What of the X-Prize entry?
Well, the above-copied image reveals a sled-like craft with no aerodynamic lift
or control surfaces. The philosophy is one of multiple redundancy. There will be
numerous rocket engines attached to this sled, and, for good measure, there will
be a large crucifix painted
on it (top and side, see?). It is as well to put one's trust in God when going
into space aboard such a craft. The team briefing from the X-Prize site is
somewhat more revealing. The propellant is given as methyl alcohol and hydrogen
peroxide - a relatively unusual combination. There is also mention of a
"ballute" for deceleration on the downward path. Also on their site site
are pictures of engine hardware. It looks as if small rockets have been flown by
the group. They seem to have a long way to go yet, but we wish them the best of
luck. click the picture below to go to the Micro-Space site. As of 27th Jan
2004, the "News" part of their site said "under construction", though there was a picture of a group of people holding
rockets, which suggests they have been firing small rockets, at least. Now there
something in their "News" section but the latest entry is for August 2005.
