     White dwarf shreds massive comet

Extra-Solar PlanetsEvidence for the destruction of a massive comet-like body by a white dwarf star in the constellation of Bootes, 170ly distant, has been investigated by the Hubble Space Telescope and the Keck Telescope.

The white dwarf star is now surrounded by a ring, consisting of the fragments and gaseous residue of the cometary body, which was estimated to be around 100,000 the size of oue own well-know Halley's Comet, with which the distribution of chemical elements found in the spectrum of the star, attributed to the vanished cometary body.
